The tattoo tradition in Polynesia is divided into various branches such as Samoan, Tahitian, and Hawaiian tattoo. In the West, they are known simply as Polynesian tattoo designs that have its origin from islands in the Pacific. Polynesian tattoo is already widespread in Europe and in the United States. From the early tribes of the Pacific, this decorative body modification is still alive in other cultures.
The concept of tattoo and its inherent beauty in the body gave early artists the idea to transform it into a form of art. Later on, more tattoo designs have been developed and there were other colors of ink aside from the regular black color. As in early times, people of all gender wear their own version of tattoos that they show to friends and other people. More creative individuals regard body art as a form of self-expression. Their bodies became canvasses that show their feelings and ideas.
